This past Saturday, October 11th, at YBCA, I was able to attend the Bay Area Independent Fashion Festival. Unfortunately, I had to work and didn’t make it until 5pm. The event kicked off at noon and went until about 7pm.
I was very dissapointed to have missed the majority of designer booths. Most of them had already packed and were walking to their cars. But there were still about 8 tables that stayed behind for me to visit.
Besides the Bazaar, the night consisted of two fashion shows and a political discussion about fashion in today’s world. Miranda Caroligne, who was featured in our June Opening, had her clothing in the first runway event. Kysha, from Yahzi Rose, strutting her stuff for Rehema Bah for the second show.
The discussion was held by Leslie Rabine and Susan Kaiser from UC Davis, Erica Varize of Evarize Fahsion Cafe, Irene Hernandez-Felks of Chillin’ Productions, and moderator Cicely Sweed. This was a good way for the general public to learn a little more about local fashion and how it compares to mainstream fashion.
