You may be familiar with Paul Bakers work of ”pleasure boxes” and fun “mercury boxes” from Local Patron’s Winter Store in North Beach, but wouldn’t you know he is a master at sculptural art as well. To really know Paul Baker’s craft is to interact with it, he is known as the Bay Area’s “scientific artist”.
His latest show titled “Celestial Navigation” people literally “find” their way through the artwork and the situation. Navigation of the art piece leads one to find markers or signals of the real or metaphysical stars for guidance in themselves. His 3-D masterpieces never-the-less got people a little down and dirty. Take a look!
His Live Worms Gallery opening, featured with Chris Angell, was too short but don’t fret, you can still contact Paul for more information on his wonderful pieces, pricing, and future shows check out his own website.

Clark Sorensen, San Francisco Artist, best known for his fantastic Art Urinals.
San Francisco Artist Clark Sorensen is making a splash in the art world and on BBC news! Think urinals are boring, check these out. My favorite is the “down the drain urinal” where the graph of the market literally is going down the drain.

He has a line of “Bush”, as in President Bush, urinals as well as a collection of shells and flower urinals. If that isn’t your thing he also does sinks.

Prior to becoming an artist with porcelain, Clark Got a degree in Art from University of Utah. Hello to my fellow Ute! He then worked as a costume designer, then a computer animator for video games. Talk about a well rounded artist!

BBC News – New Jersey snow sculpture gets frosty reception.

This is an interesting article from BBC News. It addresses nude art. The New Jersey woman was forced by police to cover up her snow sculpture of Venus de Milo or destroy it after a complaint.
This intrigues me because this original piece of art work was created around 130 – 100 BC believed to depict Aphrodite the Greek Goddess of Love and was highly sought after for it’s depiction of beauty when found in the 19th Century.
What I find more interesting is that the owner of the piece decided to put a bikini top and sarong on it but felt it looked “more objectified”.
My question to you is do you feel that a creation of art, if nude, is indecent and which picture do you think looks more sexualized?

Attendance of 5,000! I don’t think so, but never-the-less it was fun. We were expecting to only get a half of a table and ended up with a full one. Yay! We were also told it was non vending….people did it anyway. Had I known we would have brought A LOT more stuff. You live you learn and in the process we still managed to get people interested. So here is to our first “exhibit” and some pictures of the other “exhibitors.”
Enjoy!

BBC World Service – Arts & Culture – Rankin photography.
Rankin
Check out this voice video of Rankin and his new work. He is changing his work from photographing movie stars and models to people off the street. Inviting anyone to walk in off the sidewalk in front of his white seamless, he streams the photo to the computer and prints onsite to be hung for the Old Truman Gallery in London.
Instead of bringing the beauty out of models and movie stars, he is showing the beauty out of nurses, office workers, the “ordinary” public. Gathering his idea from photographing people in the Congo, he wanted to not exploit the grief, which is often popular, but showing who those people really are, their essence, and their hope.
