I was meeting my sister and her husband in San Jose before they jumped on a flight back home and we just happened across a huge Anime Convention in San Jose. I was impressed with the costumes and elaborate makeup. Enjoy the crazy fun!

Oakland Art Murmur happens the first Friday of every Month!
Between 6-9pm you can roam the streets between Broadway and Telegraph from 22nd-26th where the main corridor of gallery’s food vendors and artists showcase their work. The Murmur goes all the way up to 65th but only a few galleries are open between there and 40th. Check out the Calendar for events.
If you have art or clothing you want to sell you can do so or, if you are a musician, you can set up as well on 23rd Street by sending information to tdillman31@hotmail.com with subject “First Friday”.
Most galleries are open every Saturday afternoon as well. Check out the site for specifics.
I was impressed with the huge turnout of hipsters and older business types roaming the streets trying to push past each other in the tiny rooms of the galleries.
The Galleries that were of interest to me Vessel, FM, Mercury 20, and Johansson Projects.
Vessel: Used to be a Barn, very lovely space, great art, awesome deck with landscaped planters
FM: Fun whimsical art that will take you back to childhood fantasies.
Mercury 20: Great space with interactive art sculpture by Laura van Duran
Johannson Projects: loved the live music and grass on the ceiling
*Why doesn’t SF have this every month? Not sure, but at least each we have ARTSpan Open Studios. Look for more next week as we will be open October 9th and 10th at 143 Fillmore Street.
Site-specific art installations at Presidio.
These site-specific art installations are the first ever site-specific art-exhibition in a national park. Free and open until they disintegrate from weather conditions, or taken down next May, people have the chance to participate and observe the many installations.
Of many, there are big yellow chairs in which to observe the great blue heron, or run a start to finish line for the black tail jack rabbit. Eleven shipping containers start visitors to the constructed pieces with art inside. There is a constructed “ghost trail” machine that leaves behind footprints of the Tule Elk. Bat houses were constructed as well as Ming Dynasty hand-made bird vessels for the screech owl. The screech owl no longer lives in the Presidio but these installations are memories of animals that used to live there and maybe, with wishful thinking, attract them back one day.
If you haven’t been able to stop by Air Castle to see Danielle deRoberts, from Onerary, new Art Installation be sure to check it out tonight for the closing party. She does a wonderful display of mixing art, fabric, and drawings to seamlessly draw your eye from one piece to the next. If you miss the party be sure to check out their collection of awesome hoodies for men and women and adorable dresses at www.Onerary.com
Air Castle will be open from 12-8pm

Attendance of 5,000! I don’t think so, but never-the-less it was fun. We were expecting to only get a half of a table and ended up with a full one. Yay! We were also told it was non vending….people did it anyway. Had I known we would have brought A LOT more stuff. You live you learn and in the process we still managed to get people interested. So here is to our first “exhibit” and some pictures of the other “exhibitors.”
Enjoy!
