Bay Area Independent Fashion Festival at YBCA

This past Saturday, October 11th, at YBCA, I was able to attend the Bay Area Independent Fashion Festival.  Unfortunately, I had to work and didn’t make it until 5pm.  The event kicked off at noon and went until about 7pm.

I was very dissapointed to have missed the majority of designer booths. Most of them had already packed and were walking to their cars.  But there were still about 8 tables that stayed behind for me to visit.

Besides the Bazaar, the night consisted of two fashion shows and a political discussion about fashion in today’s world.  Miranda Caroligne, who was featured in our June Opening, had her clothing in the first runway event. Kysha, from Yahzi Rose, strutting her stuff for Rehema Bah for the second show.

The discussion was held by Leslie Rabine and Susan Kaiser from UC Davis, Erica Varize of Evarize Fahsion Cafe, Irene Hernandez-Felks of Chillin’ Productions, and moderator Cicely Sweed. This was a good way for the general public to learn a little more about local fashion and how it compares to mainstream fashion.

If you would like to see more on the event check out the below links.

2nd Skin @ The Exploratorium

Clothing, Fashion event, Going Green, Special Event, Stores 5 Comments »

If you are bored with the same old clothes and are concerned about how to go green, this was a very entertaining show to go to. 2nd Skin was an installation project of imaginative design in digital, analog clothing and recycled materials. The entire night was filled with activities that only the Exploratorium could provide. If nothing was going on at any given moment, you were allowed to view and interact with the exhibits that were part of the Exploratorium itself.

The night consisted of demonstrations by Bad Unkle Sista, Sha Sha Higby, and Takehito Etani (to name a few) followed by the demonstration of a very odd “comical” performance by Pat Oleska. The Runway Show involved Exploratorium staff and local designers. To end the night was a public show by people who came to the event in their own creations. Here are some pictures of the night. Enjoy!!!

Eternal Spring @ SOMARTS Bay Gallery

Art Opening, Clothing, Fashion event, Stores No Comments »

This weekend I attended this great show that blended local artists, performers, and designers. A great taste of what San Francisco is about. If you have ever been to SomArts you know it is an enormous warehouse space. Located on 934 Brannan street next to Bed Bath and Beyond, the place was packed by the time I got there. With a “suggested donation” of $7 and cheap drinks it was well worth the money for a night out of entertainment. The event went from 2 -10pm with an afterparty until sunrise. I missed the various dance performers and bands but made it in time for the Fashion Show from 8-10pm.

Here are some pictures from some of the clothing designers. Just to list a few in the show were: Fati Beloved, SAA.Z Design, JewelryByRisto, Wild on the Inside, Wildlife Works, Little Red Sparrow, Antoniya Ivanovna and the last, but definitely the most memorable, BadUnklSista.

The feeling from a lot of the vendors were things you would see at Burning Man… a lot of fur, a lot of skin, and a lot of character.

Not included in the fashion show were other local designers and jewelers such as: Fluidance, Foxy Monster, Paper Organics, North Beach Taylor, Sequoia Emmanuelle and Pandora’s Trunk.

Check the Eternal Spring website for more information, and links to all the people involved, the list goes on and on.
