New Arrivals from Candelas Designs Jewelry Available Online!

New Jewelry by Eve of Candelas Designs.

We hope you enjoy these cute designs as much as we do. Eve pays great detail to her work. What we like about her jewelry is how it is made.

Her jewelry is made from recycled scrap copper and silver. For some pieces, she incorporates the beautiful patina of the old copper into her designs. After preparing the pieces of scrap copper, she either enamels them on both sides so that the pieces are reversible or stamps and heats them with a torch to give them a heat patina. This is a time involved process!

If you have sensitive ears not to worry, all of the ear wires are either niobium, an inert metal which does not cause allergic reactions, or sterling silver. The sterling wire comes from scrap silver that has been melted and formed into new wire. No silver was removed from the earth to create these earrings. Not bad!

Check out her work and what is available for sale online!

Aiko Designs at the de Young Museum Store

Jewelery No Comments »

Last Friday I had the privilege of not just taking advantage of the de Young’s Friday Night extravaganza, but celebrated in Christine Aiko Beck’s Jewelry on display in the museum’s store. Aiko Design was featured in our summer store and will also be featured this December when we reopen for our Temporary Consignment Holiday Store.

Her jewelry was selected in honoring Asian American Modern Art.  I highly suggest going to the exhibit and checking out her jewelry.  One of the exhibits features Maya Lin’s Systematic Landscapes. Her work hangs outside of the California Academy of Sciences Cafe, mimicking the topography of the bay area with hung wire. It is worth the visit!

Christine’s jewelry is for sale online and in the museum until January 18th. If you don’t get a chance to visit the de Young, come check it out from December 6th – 21st here at SF Gallery 143 Local Artists Store!

Bay Area Independent Fashion Festival at YBCA

Clothing, Fashion event, Jewelery No Comments »

This past Saturday, October 11th, at YBCA, I was able to attend the Bay Area Independent Fashion Festival.  Unfortunately, I had to work and didn’t make it until 5pm.  The event kicked off at noon and went until about 7pm.

I was very dissapointed to have missed the majority of designer booths. Most of them had already packed and were walking to their cars.  But there were still about 8 tables that stayed behind for me to visit.

Besides the Bazaar, the night consisted of two fashion shows and a political discussion about fashion in today’s world.  Miranda Caroligne, who was featured in our June Opening, had her clothing in the first runway event. Kysha, from Yahzi Rose, strutting her stuff for Rehema Bah for the second show.

The discussion was held by Leslie Rabine and Susan Kaiser from UC Davis, Erica Varize of Evarize Fahsion Cafe, Irene Hernandez-Felks of Chillin’ Productions, and moderator Cicely Sweed. This was a good way for the general public to learn a little more about local fashion and how it compares to mainstream fashion.

If you would like to see more on the event check out the below links.

Here is a link to the post card if you missed it and are interested in everyone involved.

BadUnklSista Trunk Show

Art, Clothing, Going Green, Jewelery, Music No Comments »

This Wednesday I was able to attend BadUnklSista’s Trunk Show. Located on 7th and Market, the once monthly show brings in new Designers and Jewelers. Seen were names I recognized from the Eternal Spring extravaganza. Nika Tang (who organized Eternal Spring), was there as well. My apologies to those names that weren’t mentioned (I need to bring a notepad and pen next time). Wine and munchies were also provided along with some very moody music. Featured mostly below are costumes made by Anastazia.I hope you find them just as amazing as I do. Anastazia started out making her own costumes for a stilt troop which was mandatory. Surprisingly, she hated it. They liked her ideas so much she then provided the costumes for the whole troop. Now other people, and myself, can enjoy her wonderful costumes and clothing. I guess you can’t ignore talent. Enjoy the pictures!
